Today we covered the distance from Hontanas to Fromista. We are currently over 200 miles into our exploits here in Spain, and wanted to take a moment to say thank you to each of our followers and supporters on this journey. Jeanie has truly been amazed by the way friends, family, and a community of individuals with and without diabetes have come around her and supported her as she encourages others with diabetes to live their lives to the fullest.
The William Sansum Diabetes Center has supported this venture from the start through assisting in areas related to diabetes planning and preparation, connecting Jeanie with trip sponsors, as well as engaging the difficulties facing travelers with diabetes at a broader level through the DiabetesTravel.org resource site. Dexcom is supporting Jeanie as a new member of their Dexcom Warrior program and various others have contributed to making this trip a reality! We are learning so much through this experience, and many have already been positively impacted by seeing the way Jeanie is taking on the joys and challenges of this trek.
Through blisters and bedbugs and trail highs and lows, we are strengthened by the encouragement of those of you who have supported these efforts in a multitude of ways. Your support means the world to us, and we trek with you on our minds and hearts. Thank you! “Only” 300 miles to go!
Note: If you would like to further support the research being done on this trip, see the “Donate Now” link on the WSDC homepage (www.sansum.org) and be sure to put “T1D trekking” in the field entitled “this is in honor of.” Thank you!
