The William Sansum Diabetes Center is a world renown non-profit research and social service organization specializing in diabetes. The Center was founded in 1944 by Dr. William Sansum, the first physician in the US to make and use insulin to treat a person with diabetes.
From its Santa Barbara location, the William Sansum Diabetes Center is dedicated to improving the lives of people impacted by diabetes through research, education, and care. One of the ways we are currently pursuing these goals is by moving forward in the process of creating an on-line resource and app specifically to assist in the planning and management of diabetes while traveling internationally (www.diabetestravel.org). This site will comprehensively cover concerns such as how to adjust insulin, airline and accommodation comparisons, and destination tips for international travelers.
This blog will provide you with updates as well as a space for feedback regarding what type of resources would be most helpful for an individual traveling with diabetes. Spread the word and offer input now while the site is still in its formative process!
